IT Director Clinical Applications

  • Duration: 3-6 months while we recruit for a FT replacement.
  • Start: Immediately.
  • Onsite required (depending on the candidate, this may become negotiable. There is also some flexibility in number of days/week or maybe 2-3 weeks on, 1 week remote, etc.). The Coachella Valley is great this time of year.
  • Responsibility for 35 staff/contractors supporting Epic and other key clinical applications. Reporting to the CIO. Does not currently include Enterprise Imaging or BioMed. The role here is best described as a Director/Manager hybrid.
  • Short term priorities:
    • Keep active projects progressing in key areas.
    • Oversight of key maintenance of business and optimization requests. Assist with capacity planning and expectation management.
    • Provide support and management of direct reports. Continue recruitment in key areas.
    • Partner with Nursing and Medical Informatics on workflow design and training delivery. 

Here are some identified attributes of an ideal candidate :

  • Ability to direct and manage multiple projects. Knowledge of project management processes and standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of best practices for healthcare information technology and system analysis. Epic experience required.
  • Skill in leading, guiding and evaluating performance and providing training to improve performance.
  • The ability to quickly adapt/fit into Eisenhower culture and strong ability to interact with users, administration, physicians and staff.
  • “People person technologist” who knows how to engage peer leaders from a technology perspective.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage customers, build consensus, collaborate, and relate complex topics and help users understand “the art of possible”.
  • Current clinical licensure/certification or healthcare technology certifications (Epic Clinical) and/or project management certifications are highly desirable.
  • For contract roles, we don’t scrutinize education/licensure/experience in a way that HR would but here at the attributes of the full-time role. Ideally, we’d find someone with experience as an IT Director, Sr. Manager or well-tenured Manager over clinical applications.
    • Education
      • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Health, Science, Business or HS diploma and an additional 4 years of related work experience.
      • Preferred: Master’s degree in Information Technology, Health, Science, Business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Licensure/Certification
      • Required: None
      • Preferred: Current clinical licensure or certification (OT, PT, SLP, RN, RPH, RT, ARRT, etc.)
      • Preferred: Relevant Information Technology certification(s) in Epic Clinical Applications and/or Project Management Certifications.
    • Experience
      • Required: 5 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology or 9 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology without a bachelor’s degree. 3 years serving in a manager role or a functional leadership role and/or have managed other colleagues.
      • Preferred: 5 years serving in a director or manager role in IT management or healthcare operational delivery.
